Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. Lewis County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or direct message may be kept long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may receive routine technical information about that visit:

- The referring website, when supplied
- Visited pages and approximate time spent on them

- The device's assigned IP address

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Lewis County Criminal History does not compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, court clerks, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing practices govern information submitted to those tools. This policy does not control a provider's processing, so its policy should be reviewed before a query is sent.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Lewis County government, courts, New York agencies, legal resources, or outside tools. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's privacy rules apply. Those terms should be read before personal information is provided.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing is controlled by the provider.

Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information known to have come from a minor will be deleted when identified.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide further rights. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to state and local government agency records, while Executive Law Section 837 limits official criminal-history dissemination by DCJS. Those statutes do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Object to certain forms of processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request a copy of personal information held about them

This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A new version becomes available on this page and carries an updated effective date.
